PLN IP Services Presents MRO Capabilities and Strategic Collaboration at Electricity Connect 2026
Tangerang, 22 September 2026 – Energy security and independence are an important part of supporting economic growth while facing the dynamics of the global energy transition. This spirit is part of Enlit Asia & Electricity Connect 2026 which carries the theme "Powering Regional Sovereignty, Securing Energy Systems Resilience". In this event which brings together the government, energy and electricity industry players, stakeholders, electricity activists and academics from Indonesia and the ASEAN region, PT PLN Indonesia Power Services (PLN IP Services) presents Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities through strategic collaboration to support asset reliability, national industrial development and MRO service opportunities to regional markets.
The event was attended by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia Bahlil Lahadalia, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Stella Christie, Director of Enlit Asia Simon Hoare, Acting Director General of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Tri Winarno, President Director of PT PLN (Persero) and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Indonesian Electricity Society Darmawan Prasodjo, Chairman of the Indonesian Electricity Society Suroso Isnandar, as well as ambassadors from friendly countries, stakeholders, electricity activists, and academics from Indonesia and the ASEAN region.
In the forum, the Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia emphasized that energy sovereignty is an important part of state sovereignty. As a country with a large territory, large population, and energy needs that continue to grow along with economic and industrial development, Indonesia has the potential and responsibility to optimize domestic energy resources.
"As a sovereign country, of course we must be able to ensure our own energy needs. Economic growth, population and industrial development will continue to increase energy needs. Therefore, we must manage the potential we have to create energy security and independence," said Bahlil.
Bahlil also highlighted Indonesia's opportunities in facing the global energy transition. According to him, the development of new and renewable energy needs to be carried out while still considering the needs of economic growth and increasing national energy demand.
"Indonesia has a large territory and very diverse energy potential. This is a great opportunity to build a more independent energy system while supporting the energy transition agenda towards Net Zero Emissions. The development of PLTS up to 100 GWp is one part of this effort," added Bahlil.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT PLN (Persero) and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Indonesian Electricity Society, Darmawan Prasodjo, sees that Indonesia has a great opportunity to become one of the growth centers for the energy sector in the region. The large need for generation, development of renewable energy, energy storage and construction of transmission networks creates extensive space for the development of the electricity ecosystem.
"Indonesia is entering a phase of enormous energy development. We see the need for generation continuing to grow, the development of renewable energy, batteries, and the construction of transmission networks. This creates a new ecosystem that requires technology, investment, manufacturing and human resources," said Darmawan.
According to Darmawan, this large opportunity also needs to be accompanied by increasingly stronger connectivity between Indonesia and countries in the ASEAN region.
"When the need for energy and investment becomes greater, we cannot go it alone. Connectivity with countries in ASEAN will open wider space for the exchange of technology, investment, competence and development of the electricity industry," added Darmawan.
In line with these opportunities, PLN IP Services brings experience in managing and maintaining generation assets to develop MRO services that can answer the needs of the growing energy and electricity industry. This capability is part of the PLN IP Services portfolio as a provider of integrated energy solutions, starting from O&M, MRO, EPC, Rental Power Services, Strategic Parts, to Energy Supply.
The development of PLN IP Services' MRO capabilities is carried out through collaboration with strategic partners, including PT ABB Sakti Industri, as well as PT Barata Indonesia (Persero) and Technofit Sdn Bhd. This collaboration is part of an effort to integrate generation asset management experience with technology, manufacturing, heavy workshop facilities and technical competence to provide a more comprehensive asset management solution.
Together with ABB, PLN IP Services provides maintenance and repair services generators, motors, and VSDs/inverters, the provision of ABB products and spare parts, and generator and motor life assessments. This collaboration combines PLN IP Services' experience in managing generation assets with ABB's technology and technical competency to support the reliability and sustainability of customer assets.
Meanwhile, together with Barata Indonesia and Technofit, PLN IP Services is developing a Turbine and Rotating Equipment MRO Center at the PKT Cilegon Plant. This collaboration includes electrical product development, increasing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), technology transfer, human resource competency development, and opportunities to expand MRO services to the Asia Pacific market.
In this collaboration, PLN IP Services acts as a solution integrator and contractor, connecting customer needs with the technical capabilities and facilities of its strategic partners. This role is part of PLN IP Services' development as an integrated energy solutions provider that relies not only on its experience in the generation sector but also on building a strategic ecosystem and network to meet the increasingly diverse needs of its customers.
PLN IP Services President Director, Hari Cahyono, emphasized that developing MRO capabilities is part of PLN IP Services' efforts to leverage its power plant asset management experience to address broader industry needs.
"PLN IP Services' experience in managing and maintaining power plants is the foundation for providing MRO solutions to customers. Through collaboration with strategic partners, we integrate asset management experience with technology, manufacturing, and technical competency to provide more comprehensive solutions," said Hari.
According to Hari, MRO development is also linked to the spirit of green investment. Optimizing operating assets, extending their useful lives, and developing supporting electricity industries are part of the effort to create sustainable added value.
"Green investment is not only about developing new and renewable energy, but also about how existing assets can be continuously optimized to operate reliably, efficiently, and have a longer useful life. At the same time, MRO development opens up space for the growth of domestic manufacturing, technology, local content (TKDN), and human resource competency," Hari added.
This ecosystem development also opens up opportunities for Indonesia's MRO capabilities to expand in the regional market. PLN IP Services' experience in managing generation assets, its Barata Indonesia heavy workshop facilities, and its Technofit technology and international network are part of a collaboration to develop maintenance, repair, overhaul, and life extension services for power plants in the Asia Pacific region.
